How is Sleep Apnea Treated?

The Gold Standard For Treating Sleep Apnea.

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard for treating obstructive sleep apnea.  CPAP therapy keeps your airway open during the night by providing a gentle stream of air through a mask that is worn during the night.  This eliminates the breathing pauses caused by sleep apnea and keeps your body from waking up due to lack of oxygen.

Consistent use of CPAP therapy can prevent health issues such as high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.  You will experience less daytime sleepiness and your mood and memory will improve.

CPAP therapy includes a small, quiet machine that sits on the side of your bed, flexible tubing and a mask. The masks may cover your nose or your nose and mouth.  The newer nasal pillow masks fit your nostrils and are very comfortable. Our trained professionals will ensure that you have the best type and fitted mask for your facial features that it is comfortable and provides a good seal.  Our sleep doctor will determine the amount of air pressure to treat your sleep apnea.

It’s important that you use the CPAP machine every night and even during naps to improve your health.  CPAP is a lifestyle change and the more you follow your therapy, the better you will feel!
